When will the Dr. B.C. Roy National Awards recommence?

The present Government and the Health Ministry along with the Board of Governors, Medical Council of India has been sitting on the Dr. B.C. Roy National Award file for the last 5 years.

The last awards were given on 1st July, 2008 by the then President Smt. Pratibha Singh Patil.
For the medical fraternity, Dr. B.C. Roy National Awards are the highest award, which a doctor can aspire for.  Each year, 15 to 20 awards were distributed. But, for reasons unknown to the medical fraternity, the Government and MCI are sitting on the file.  I have personally filed an RTI application in both MCI and Health Ministry but with no response.

It appears that the present Government is not medical fraternity friendly.

  • No further Dr. B.C. Roy National Awards have been given since 2008.
  • The Government is thinking of allowing AYUSH doctors to register under Allopathic Medical Register.
  • The Clinical Establishment (Registration and Regulation) Act 2010 was passed by the Parliament without taking the medical fraternity into confidence.
  • There is a proposal to introduce half-baked medical courses in competition to Allopathic MBBS without any basis.
  • The Government is not making medical doctors at par with Civil Services by bringing in the concept of Indian Medical Services along the lines of IAS, IRS.
  • The Government dissolved the Medical Council of India on the plea that there was a rampant corruption in the Council. If this is so, then why were the Coal and IT Ministries not dissolved and brought under the Administrative Control?

  1. This an eye opener , govt can't do such things with lawyers due to obvious reasons. We should raise our voice. Govt should realize falling number of students opting for medical steam is due to such policies .In near future healthcare providers will not be from cream of society but from bottom.

  2. Rspected Sir,
I wish to submit that Govt is not doing wrong anything wrong if Ayush docs will be registered under only one national register. Till now I have not understood why these so called ALLOPATHIC doctors are fearing about. If they are better, and only they have studied allopathy than in Indian (Bharat) they should go to England or America. In India Ayurveda and Homeopathy alongwith so called Allopathy are being used from ancient times. Allopathy is nothing but 'Rasayans used in Ayurveda'.
I wish to further submit that in the judgement of Muktyrachand vs Govt. of Punjab, Hon. court has used the word excluding Homeopathy and not Ayurveda and Unani.
In India it is very clear that excluding certain specialists of Heart and cancer are not doing much for the society, none of the Ayush docs are doing bypass surgeries.
I think these arguments are being done by plian graduates of so called allopathy and by them who are failure in their field. Everybody knows that if there is a clinic of a BAMS in front of a plain allopthy doc, only crowed comes to BAMS only.
Now come to state madicak register, as far as i know, Hon. Sipreme has never said the state medical register is made up of Allopathic docs, Do you think CCIM is a hotel, or a private dharmshala, or some body is writing a personal diary to register Ayush Docs, Certainly NOT, every Ayush Docs is also registerd in state medical register, because every part of Allopathy docs, Ayush Docs is in integral part of Govt. of India. Hon. Supreme court has never and nowhere said that only allopathy is our state therapy and only they have all the rights.
Yesterday one more doc was writing that Ayurveda Colleges are lacking in education and facilities, they paying less fees, while Allopathy docs are paying Capitaion fees more than ayush ones, I want to clear that many medical colleges od allopathy are producing docs worst than 'jhola chaps' they even can not check Blood Pressure.
Hon. Dr.K.K.Agarwal also once suggested that Ayush and Allopathy docs should come together and start "Allovedic' practice. He is the pioneer of this philosophy. Why do many allopaths have jealosy with Ayush docs. Only Courts can not decide this field, who bind the medicines in one pathy aonly, why only allopaths are angry on this issue, Ayush has many wings, there is no problem between a BAMS or a BHMS or BUMS. Why allopaths consider themselves as better, Why do they are prescribing Liv 52, Cystone and other medicines, Yoga of which they are supposed to have no knowledge. This is the national duty of every phusician to help and treat the patient in emergeny as Supreme court has said, even a sweeper of the allopathy hospital gives medicines, in India aven a Pan Wala sales so called Allopathic medicines, but only fear of Ayush docs..........?.
I am a BAMS, doing Digital Xray, ECG etc, and practising in Ayurveda and Modern also. Every doc of Allopathy knows. Govt says help in disaster of every patient, what do I do, sorry.. I will not do that.
My son is a Gold Medallist in BAMS, doing MD Pediatrics (Again topper in all India entrance), daily undergoes in participating 4-5 deliveries, writing on 'Juvenile Cerebral Palsy' what do you think, whether its is a limited sphere or a wast sphere including everything.
Supreme court says that a doc should practice what he has studied for, every Ayush doc studies, medicne, anatomy, and all the branches of pharmacology also, that's why every Aush doc does his internship at allopathy hspital.
Dear Allopaths, dont be narrow minded, now the time has come and show shour capability in the masses and dont waste your time thinking about what Ayush docs are doing. Every moment of every doc is precious, if any doc is not having the capability, time will kick him out, wheter an allopath or ayush one.
    thanks

  3. dear Mussoorie,

thank you for your broad minded concept, what the hell is wrong with Ayush people practice what they have learnt? why the hell they want to practice allopathy when they were just not eligible to study allopathy by securing minimum standards prescribed for studying allopathy. when you people dont have confidence in what you have learnt than you dont have any right to practice other system for which one could not pass the minimum eligibility test recommended. its commonsense

  4. For every field of activity there are some minimum requirements.Treating human being is a serious business. It requires very high IQ,and rigorous training in modern medicine ( The term allopathy is used by some uneducated quack, and some half educated homeopaths). For getting admission in MBBS,one has to pass some highly competitive exam.only then one can study MBBS and can practice so called allopathic medicine. For being an IAS,IPS etc, you have to pass some exam. You can not claim that since you have passed graduation, you are entitiled to work as an IAS.You can not fly a plane without a pilot's licence, which again requires through training. This is simply commonsense. With your training as BAMS certainly you can practice ayurvedic, but you are not trained at all to practice so called allopathy. Why are you so eager to practice allopathy when such huge croud wait in front of your ayurvedic clinics? and you can cure them much better than an allopathic doctor? Does an IAS try to treat a patient? Does a car driver demand to fly a plane?Your lagic is absurd.Again why are you so jealous of MBBS doctors?Did you or your son get chance to study MBBS in government medical colleges?

  5. No body is afraid of anybody entering in practice, principally we should practice what we have learned. Ayush doctors should be proud of carrying time tested old system of practice and treat pts with that, if they are to use allopathic pharmacy , the subject should be learned during education otherwise don't fiddle.
I am not aware that in BAMS they also teach allopathic pharmacy, correct me if I am wrong
Every system is good if we are able to treat pts, no one system is superior than other. The politician in form govt has only one agenda, play game of politics to win vote banks, divide and rule and for them citizens welfare may well go to hell.
I am here for welfare of pts and only do what aim trained for.if I drive a car without learning even some govt gives me lisence I will injure people on road, I will avoid that rather than arguing otherwise.
